I. Qualification for studies will be based on the sum of qualifying points with the participation of two criteria
1. results of the matura secondary school leaving examination or maturity examination or foreign examination confirmed by a maturity certificate or a certificate of secondary school leaving examination results or an IB diploma or an EB diploma or a certificate/diploma/ other document issued outside the Republic of Poland entitling the holder to apply for admission to higher education in the Republic of Poland – converted into qualification points in accordance with the rules set out in Part II below.
2. the results of the competency examination conducted by the Medical University of Warsaw, which will be converted into qualification points on the terms set out in Part III below, or the results of the standardized written DAT (Dental Admission Test) or UCAT (University Clinical Aptitude Test) or BMAT (Biomedical Admissions Test) or MCAT (Medical College Admission Test) or GAMSAT (Graduate Australian Medical School Admissions Test) or HPAT (Health Professions Admission Test) - confirmed by an appropriate certificate if they apply for admission on the basis of a certificate issued abroad or another document referred to in Article 7 paragraph 1 section 1 d, e, f or g of the Conditions, procedure, start and end dates, and method of recruitment for the first year of studies in the academic year 2025/2026 at the Medical University of Warsaw.
3. Candidates with a BSc (Bachelor of Science) or MSc (Master of Science) diploma in natural sciences or equivalent, receive qualification points in this criterion after converting grades in natural science subjects, based on the presented list of grades (transcript), if they apply for admission on the basis of a certificate issued abroad or another document referred to in Article 7 paragraph 1 section 1 d, e, f or g of the Conditions, procedure, start and end dates, and method of recruitment for the first year of studies in the academic year 2025/2026 at the Medical University of Warsaw.
4. Certificate of DAT, UCAT, BMAT, MCAT, GAMSAT, HPAT and diploma in natural sciences BSc and MSc - are recognized within 5 years from the date of issue.
Qualification result = 20% of the total qualification points for criterion 1) + 80% of five times the number of the qualification points for criterion 2)
II. Qualification based on the results specified in part I, section 1:
1. Candidates who have obtained a secondary school leaving certificate after taking the matura secondary school leaving examination/certificate of secondary school leaving examination results will be qualified on the basis of the results of the secondary school leaving examination in the following subjects, converted into qualification points:
- biology- written examination (advanced level),
- chemistry- written examination (advanced level),
- physics and astronomy (or physics) or mathematics- written examination (basic or advanced level).
For the subjects Physics and Astronomy (or Physics) and Mathematics, the following applies:
a) the result of the examination in Physics and Astronomy or Physics (basic level) will be converted into qualification points using a multiplier of 0.6, and the result of this examination taken at the advanced level - using a multiplier of 1.0,
b) the result of the Mathematics examination (basic level) will be converted into qualification points using a multiplier of 0.5, and the result of this examination taken at the advanced level - using a multiplier of 1.0.
2. Candidates who have obtained an IB diploma or an EB diploma or a certificate or other documents issued in the following Member States: European Union (EU), Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) or European Free Trade Association (EFTA) will be qualified on the basis of converted for qualification points, results from the matura secondary school leaving examination in the following subjects:
1) biology- written examination at an advanced level (e.g. Higher Level, Advanced Level),
2) chemistry- written examination at an advanced level (e.g. Higher Level, Advanced Level),
3) physics or mathematics- written examination at the basic level (e.g. Standard Level, Advanced Subsidiary Level) or advanced (e.g. Higher Level, Advanced Level).
The rules for converting grades from the IB diploma and certificates or other documents issued in the countries listed above into qualification points are set out in Appendix 20.
In case of Mathematics taken in the IB programme, the following subjects are accepted: Mathematical Studies Standard Level or Mathematics (Standard or Higher Level) or Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches (Standard or Higher Level) or Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation (Standard or Higher Level).
In case of the IB diploma, the following rules apply to the results in Physics and Mathematics:
a) the result of the Physics examination passed at the Standard Level will be converted into qualifying points using a multiplier of 0.6, and the result of this examination passed at the Higher Level using a multiplier of 1.0.
b) the result of the examination in Mathematics will be converted into qualifying points:
- Mathematical Studies Standard Level or Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation Standard Level with a multiplier of 0.5,
- Mathematics Standard Level or Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches Standard Level with a multiplier of 0.6,
- Mathematics Higher Level or Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches Higher Level or Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation Higher Level with a multiplier of 1.0.
Grades from EB diplomas, in case of examinations passed at the advanced level, will be converted into qualification points using a multiplier of 10, and for results in Physics and Mathematics, in the case of examinations taken at the basic level, using a multiplier of 6 for Physics and a multiplier of 5 for Mathematics.
In the case of other certificates, the following rule applies to the results in Physics and Mathematics:
a) the result of the examination in Physics (basic level, e.g. Standard Level, Advanced Subsidiary Level) will be converted into qualification points using a multiplier of 0.6, and the result of this exam taken at the advanced level (e.g. Higher Level, Advanced Level) - from using a multiplier of 1.0,
b) the result of the Mathematics examination (basic level, e.g. Standard Level, Advanced Subsidiary Level) will be converted into qualification points using a multiplier of 0.5, and the result of this examination taken at the advanced level (e.g. Higher Level, Advanced Level) - from using a multiplier of 1.0.
3. Candidates who have received a secondary school leaving certificate obtained after passing the matura secondary school leaving examination or a certificate/diploma/other document entitling them to apply for admission to higher education in the Republic of Poland, issued outside Poland in countries other than EU, OECD or EFTA member states, will be qualified on the basis of the results in the subjects converted into qualification points (for converters, see Appendix 20):
1) biology- grade equivalent to the advanced level of the written matura exam
2) chemistry- grade equivalent to the advanced level of the written matura exam
3) physics and astronomy or physics or mathematics- grade equivalent to the basic or advanced level of the written matura exam.
For the subjects Physics and Astronomy (or Physics) and Mathematics, the following rule applies:
a) the result of the examination in Physics and Astronomy or Physics (basic level) will be converted into qualification points using a multiplier of 0.6, and the result of this exam taken at the advanced level - using a multiplier of 1.0,
b) the result of the Mathematics examination (basic level) will be converted into qualification points using a multiplier of 0.5, and the result of this examination taken at the advanced level - using a multiplier of 1.0.
4. If the document referred to in Part II, paragraphs 2 and 3, does not specify a pass mark or provide documented confirmation of the equivalence of the result obtained to a given level, the result may be recognised:
- from the examination in Biology and Chemistry as equivalent to the advanced level of the matura secondary school leaving examination. Then this result will be converted into qualification points (see Appendix 20) according to the grading scale used in a given education system, converted into a 100-point scale. A multiplier of 1.0 will be applied to the converted result;
- from the examination in Physics (or Physics and Astronomy) and Mathematics as equivalent to the basic level of the matura secondary school leaving examination. Then, this result will be converted into qualification points (see Appendix 20) according to the grading scale used in a given education system, converted into a 100-point scale. A multiplier of 0.6 will be applied to the converted result for the Physics and a multiplier of 0.5 for the Mathematics.
In the absence of the required subject on the certificate, the candidate may take the examination in this subject organized by the Medical University of Warsaw (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), with a maximum of two subjects possible. A candidate can receive a maximum of 100 points in a given subject and the examination is considered passed if the candidate receives at least 30 points. The scope of the examination requirements is determined and announced by the Chairperson of the WKR in consultation with the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine by February 17, 2025.
5. In case of candidates who are in the last year of secondary school and will take the matura secondary school leaving examination, IB or EB examinations or receive a certificate/diploma/other document issued outside the Republic of Poland - entitling them to apply for admission to higher education in the Republic of Poland in the year of recruitment, persons who have a certificate of expected results of the matura secondary school leaving examination or grades predicted on a certificate/diploma/other document issued outside the Republic of Poland - entitling to apply for admission to higher education in the Republic of Poland, issued by authorized bodies (the so-called predicted grades) - are admitted to the qualification procedure. The qualification of these candidates will be conditional until the presentation of the original secondary school leaving certificate, IB or EB diploma, or certificate/diploma/other document issued outside the Republic of Poland - entitling them to apply for admission to higher education in the Republic of Poland within the deadline set by the Admission Committee for submitting documents in the case of recruitment for a field of study taught in English.
III. Qualification based on the results specified in part I, section 2:
- The competency exam will be conducted in English and will test the candidate’s understanding of Biology and Chemistry principles, decision-making skills, and logical thinking.
- The scope of the examination requirements shall be set and announced by the Chairperson of the WKR in consultation with the with the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine by 17 February 2025. The examination is conducted remotely for candidates grouped according to their country of residence, on dates set by the Chairperson of the WKR according to the rules set out in Appendix 23. It is possible to conduct the examination in a stationary format. If necessary, the dates and locations will be announced by the Chairperson of the WKR.
Admission to the examination takes place on the basis of an application completed by the candidate in the Online Recruitment System (IRK). Examination results are given in points. The candidate can obtain a maximum of 100 points.
The University reserves the right to conduct interviews with the indicated candidates.
IV. Required documents in terms of knowledge of the English language
Candidates qualified for admission to studies (does not apply to candidates whose mother tongue is English and candidates who took the matura secondary school leaving examination in English) must submit a certificate from the examination verifying the knowledge of English at a level enabling them to pursue studies. The CEFR B2 level must be confirmed by certificates: IELTS with a score of at least 6.5 points; TOEFL iBT – at least 87 points, FCE with a score of at least 173 points, TOEIC at least 700, CAE, CPE or an equivalent certificate or other document in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education and verified by the Admission Committee. For candidates who have obtained a secondary school leaving certificate after taking the matura secondary school leaving examination in Poland, the result of the written English language examination at the advanced level, with a grade of at least 60%, is taken into account. If a candidate presenting a secondary school leaving certificate obtained after taking the matura secondary school leaving examination does not have the required English language grade, they are required to present a language certificate at CEFR B2 level confirming their knowledge of English in accordance with the above rules.
